Tree Planting Along the Waveney  River Waveney Trust has various tree-planting sites along the Waveney, including Three Rivers Campsite in Geldeston, Outney Common in Bungay, Wortwell Mill, Mendham Mill and Shotford. We have 300 trees to plant anything left over will be mopped up anything in January. We need to move between sites during the day. What to expect: A friendly atmosphere, with some festive beverages and treats to keep us going. You will need to travel across uneven ground and wield a spade for this task. Please get in touch with me directly if you have any accessibility issues. Full instructions will be provided on the day, and we will need to move between sites, so please consider car sharing where possible. What to bring: Garden gloves, wellington boots and dress for the weather with long-sleeved tops and trousers. Your spade. Plenty to drink and a packed lunch. Providing shade to help control excessive growth of aquatic plants, e.g. duckweed Keeping the river cool during our warm summers and reducing the risk of fish kills Stabilising the riverbanks and reducing erosion Intercepting and reducing runoff of sediment and nutrients to the river, thereby improving water quality.

We are taking part in a project - Preventing Plastic Pollution - looking at how plastic finds its way into rivers and eventually out into oceans. Help us to collect litter, identify litter hotspots and look at ways we can tackle plastic pollution locallly, whilst gathering data that contributes to a better understanding globally.  We've got plenty of litter pickers, bags, bag hoops and gloves. We would love you to join us, it's a perfect opportunity to get out for a winter walk and chat with a friendly bunch of people and make this part of the Waveney catchment look more beautiful.  I'll bring flasks of hot water, tea, coffee, milk and biscuits! All training and equipment provided.   Parking: Travelling along A143 toward Diss from Harleston, take a left-hand turn just after the Thorpe Parva exit on the opposite side of the road. We can park in the field and walk straight downhill to the river. I'm informed all cattle are off on the northern river banks.   What to expect: A friendly atmosphere, teas & coffee provided You will need adequate fitness to carry out dragging and pulling vegetation with a rake and travel across uneven ground. Full training and tools required for the job. What to bring: Garden gloves Plenty to drink and a packed lunch. Wear hats, sunscreen or extra layers depending on the time of year. Wellington boots Please dress for the weather with long-sleeved tops and trousers. Fleece materials are preferable when working close to the water as they are lightweight and dry more quickly. We are taking part in a project - Preventing Plastic Pollution - looking at how plastic finds its way into rivers and eventually out into oceans. Help us to collect litter in the Waveney, identify litter hotspots and look at ways we can tackle plastic pollution locallly, whilst gathering data that contributes to a better understanding globally.  We've got plenty of litter pickers, bags, bag hoops and gloves. You will need a kayak, canoe or paddleboard, a well fitting buoyancy aid and suitable clothing for being on the water in winter. We would love you to join us, it's a perfect opportunity to get out on the water, exercise and chat with a friendly bunch of people.  There will also be cake at the end! (Hand sanitiser also provided or supermarket facilities are near by) We meet at 10am at the back of Tesco car park, near the path that leads down to the riverside. We will be on the water for around hour to hour and half, we will then sort the litter at the Youth and Community Centre on Shelfanger Road. Please let me know if you're coming by selecting a FREE ticket - I will need to provide supermarket with details of cars parked in their carpark for this event, so please get in touch before hand. What to bring: Your kayak/canoe Always carry a mobile phone, and wear a lifejacket/buoyancy aid A hot drink, water and a packed lunch. Please dress for kayaking. Manmade fibres are preferable as they tend to be lightweight and dry more quickly. In cold weather, consideration should be given to wearing; • base layers • hats, buffs/neck warmers, poggies or neoprene gloves  • wetsuits • dry suits • spray decks and cags  A dry bag with spare clothes is required. River Waveney Trust Tree Pinning Work Party Join Jeremy Miege, tree surgeon and conservation landscape engineer, to safely pin a previously obstructing tree along the river bank to allow canoe passage and create a habitat for fish and invertebrates.  There is plenty of parking alongside the river, where the Low Road has remained closed since the flooding events of December 2020. Rebecca and Stuart are members of the Waveney, Water & Woodlands Farmer Cluster, involving 19 farmers who are committed to improving water quality and habitat connectivity throughout the Waveney catchment. Rebecca  will be sharing her insights into Regenaerative Agriculture and Communities. The Mayhew family have farmed in Woodton since the mid 1940's, and started out with a small suckler cow herd, chickens and pigs, as well as farming over 500 acres of arable land.  Whilst on a family holiday in 2016, they spent time on a friend's dairy unit in Scotland and fell in love with the idea of having their own herd of Jersey cattle. Come and find out about how they care for their land and their Jersey herd, in a way that diverges greatly from methods of mega dairies. Help us to collect litter near and in the River Waveney, identify litter hotspots and look at ways we can tackle plastic pollution locallly, whilst gathering data that contributes to a better global understanding.  We've got plenty of litter pickers, bags, bag hoops and gloves so no extra equipment needed. We would love you to join us, it's a perfect opportunity to get outside, stretch your legs, chat with a friendly bunch of people, and there will be cake at the end! We will meet at 9.30am at the back of the car park at Morrisons, near the steps that lead down to the riverside footpath. It's a small area to cover, but sadly its a real litter hotspot.  We will collect litter for aroun an hour, then we will gather to record data on what we have found and to eat cake and have hot drink.
