Tree Planting Along the Waveney

River Waveney Trust has various tree-planting sites along the Waveney, including Three Rivers Campsite in Geldeston, Outney Common in Bungay, Wortwell Mill, Mendham Mill and Shotford. We have 300 trees to plant anything left over will be mopped up anything in January. We need to move between sites during the day.

What to expect:

A friendly atmosphere, with some festive beverages and treats to keep us going.

You will need to travel across uneven ground and wield a spade for this task. Please get in touch with me directly if you have any accessibility issues.

Full instructions will be provided on the day, and we will need to move between sites, so please consider car sharing where possible.

What to bring:

Garden gloves, wellington boots and dress for the weather with long-sleeved tops and trousers.

Your spade.

Plenty to drink and a packed lunch.

Tree planting is an effective tool for landscape-scale nature recovery and mitigating the effects of climate change.

  • Providing shade to help control excessive growth of aquatic plants, e.g. duckweed
  • Keeping the river cool during our warm summers and reducing the risk of fish kills
  • Stabilising the riverbanks and reducing erosion
  • Intercepting and reducing runoff of sediment and nutrients to the river, thereby improving water quality.
