Murray Thompson a leading aquatic ecologist now working for cefas, will talk to us about his research into re-wilding rivers and how this can have profound and positive effects on the biodiversity in the river. A talk by Tim Holt-Wilson on the geology of the Waveney Valley. Part one of this series will focus on the upper reaches and non tidal section of the Waveney Valley. A fascinating dive into the geology and heritage of our river. £4 (£3 RWT members). All money raised goes to the River Waveney Trust. Tickets on the door. The second part of this talk (Bungay to Breydon Water), will be held in Beccles at the Caxton Club on Thursday 22nd September 2022. Tim works in the environment & heritage sector in Norfolk & Suffolk, with a focus on geoconservation, landscape and museums. Author of 'Norfolk's Earth Heritage' (2012) and 'Tides of Change - Two million years on the Suffolk Coast' (2014). Member of the Quaternary Research Assocation and Geological Society of Norfolk. Working with the Norfolk Geodiversity Partnership since 2007 to develop a Geodiversity Action Plan. Working with CICs and charities, including Art Branches, the Restoration Trust and the Biodiversity & Environmental Education Society. Thanks goes to Tim for giving his time so generously to the Trust.

River Walk & Talk with our Catchment Officer and Trust Manager

Join our Catchment Officer, Emily Winter, and our Trust Manager, Martha Meek, on a short walk along the River Waveney in Brockdish. Hear about the River Waveney Trusts projects on the river and find out more about river restoration and how a natural river works.  Both Emily and Martha will be on hand to answer any questions you have about the River Waveney Trust and our plans for the future.  The walk will take place on a public footpath with the landowners permission. Dogs on leads can be brought but please be aware that cattle may be present nearby. Parking and meeting at Crescent Farm Poultry, Common Lane, Brockdish IP21 4LA. Donation of £4 per person, £3 for RWT members (bring your membership card). 100% of money raised goes to the River Waveney Trust.

Talk on Restoration of the Historic Lock Chambers at Geldeston Locks

The lock chambers at Geldeston Locks Inn have been restored as a partnership project between the River Waveney Trust and the Inland Waterways Association. Restoration began in 2015 and is due to be completed (covid permitting) in August this year, as a 2 week work party on the river. Bernard Watson, our committed volunteer project leader for the Geldeston Locks Restoration Project, will be talking about the history of the Locks and the restoration project. The talk will be Illustrated with excellent photos, both historical and from during the restoration. It will be held in the function room, at the now community owned, Geldeston Locks Inn. £4 donation towards the River Waveney Trust Beccles group, £3 RWT members (bring your membership card). Pay on the door.

Riverfly monitoring training day held at Brockdish village hall and the River Waveney in Brockdish. Learn how to identify invertebrates to monitor river water quality in the River Waveney. This is an all day event and eachn person attending will be xepcted to take on monthly monitoring of a site on the River Waveney.
