Eel Monitoring - Call for Volunteers

Tue, 16 May 2017
7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

We are very fortunate to obtain another DEFRA grant (£12k) to continue the eel and fish migration project on the River Waveney. We wish to focus on eels, particularly at Ellingham which is the first barrier they encounter.

We are looking for volunteers to monitor the movement of the eels/elvers and training will be given to those volunteering for data collection and contacts for data to be sent to a central point. The aims are to establish several traps, which we may make, covering as many entryways into the fluvial system as possible. Traps will enable capture, retention and estimation prior to the eel release.

Keith Lead (RWT Trustee) is the Project Manager but we will be guided by a professional fisheries expert, Andy Hindes (Fishtrack Ltd) who will give the presentation about the project and the eel life cycle.

Date : Tuesday, 16th May 2017

Venue : The Swan, Harleston

Time : 1930 hrs

If you are interested in this exciting project please come along so that you might contribute to the much needed eel recovery on our river.

Please let Keith know, preferably by e-mail (keithjpb@gmail.com) or alternatively tel : 01379 388031 if you wish to attend.

Thank you
